BSL Teaching Assistant – Deaf Provision (Full‑time)

About the role

We are looking for a qualified BSL Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Deaf Provision within a mainstream primary school in Hornchurch. The role starts in September 2026 and is full‑time, supporting pupils with hearing impairments to access the curriculum and develop confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Use British Sign Language to facilitate communication between pupils, teachers and support staff.
• Adapt and deliver learning resources to meet individual hearing needs.
• Collaborate with teachers, SEND professionals and speech‑and‑language therapists.
• Encourage independence and social interaction for deaf and hearing‑impaired children.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to families and the wider teaching team.

Required profile

• Level 2 or Level 3 British Sign Language qualification.
• Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a Deaf or SEND setting.
• Strong spoken and written English.
• Positive, patient and proactive attitude.

Required skills

• Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) at Level 2 or Level 3.
