BSL Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Luton)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant to join a well‑regarded primary school in Luton. This full‑time position supports pupils with hearing impairments across Early Years, KS1 and KS2, helping them access the curriculum in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils with hearing impairments to engage with learning and achieve their potential.
• Communicate effectively using British Sign Language.
• Assist the class teacher with planning and delivering age‑appropriate lessons.
• Provide feedback on pupil progress and identify areas for development.
• Promote a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere.
• Support pupils inside and outside the classroom as required.

Required profile

• Minimum Level 1 qualification in British Sign Language (higher levels preferred).
• Passion for primary education and supporting young learners.
• Strong communication skills in both BSL and spoken/written English.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Confidence building relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
