BSL Teaching Assistant – Primary School (Sutton)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Specialist Teaching Assistant with British Sign Language (BSL) skills to support deaf and hearing‑impaired pupils in a welcoming primary school in Sutton, Greater London. You will work one‑to‑one and in small groups, helping children access the curriculum and thrive in the classroom.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for deaf pupils.
• Facilitate communication between pupils and teachers using BSL.
• Assist with lesson planning and delivery to ensure inclusive learning.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to monitor pupil progress.

Required profile

• Proficient in British Sign Language.
• Experience supporting deaf or hearing‑impaired children, preferably in a primary setting.
• Previous role as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or SEND Teaching Assistant.
• Patient, caring, and adaptable approach to learning support.

Required skills

• British Sign Language (BSL) proficiency.
