Building Control Surveyor (Class 2)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Building Control Surveyor registered at Class 2 to join a forward‑thinking team delivering safe, compliant and sustainable development across London and the South‑East. The role involves assessing building regulation applications, carrying out site inspections and advising a wide range of stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Assess Full Plans submissions, Building Notices and Regularisation Applications for compliance with Building Regulations and related legislation.
• Conduct independent site inspections to verify that works match approved plans and standards.
• Provide clear technical advice to builders, developers, architects and the public.
• Identify and record contraventions, recommend corrective actions and issue decision notices within statutory deadlines.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records.
• Support the assessment and resolution of dangerous structures, including participation in an out‑of‑hours rota.
• Contribute to service quality assurance, continuous improvement and the training of junior surveyors.
• Promote Building Control services and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry partners.

Required profile

• Minimum two years’ experience in a Building Control environment or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, the Building Act and current construction techniques.
• Ability to manage a varied caseload, prioritize tasks and meet statutory deadlines.
• Confident negotiator with builders, contractors and design professionals.
• Comfortable delivering advice verbally and in written reports.
• Willingness to work outdoors, at height and on an out‑of‑hours rota when required.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
