Building Safety Manager

About the role

The Building Safety Manager will join the Building Safety Team to support the Private Sector Building Safety Programme in Southwark. Working closely with internal enforcement officers and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the role focuses on identifying high‑rise residential buildings with unsafe cladding or other fire‑safety defects and ensuring appropriate remedial actions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct an initial desktop review of privately owned high‑ and medium‑rise residential buildings within the borough and develop a risk‑based inspection programme.
• Collect and verify external wall systems (EWS) data, FRAEW reports and proprietor contact details, categorising buildings by risk level.
• Refer buildings with suspected unsafe cladding to the internal enforcement team, providing a risk priority rating and supporting further investigation.
• Engage with building owners to obtain information on cladding materials, interim fire‑safety measures, remediation funding and timelines.
• Review Building Safety Fund and Cladding Safety Scheme data to identify any missing buildings and track remediation progress.
• Maintain effective relationships with the local Fire and Rescue Service, MHCLG and other stakeholders to share data and respond to enquiries.
• Support internal enforcement actions, contribute to KPI reporting, team meetings and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
