Building Surveyor – Claims Evaluation (Essex)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to evaluate property claims arising from general perils such as fire, flood and storm across Essex. The role involves detailed site inspections, claim validation and coordination of repair works to ensure policy coverage is correctly applied.

Key responsibilities

• Review client and claim handler information and conduct thorough site visits.
• Communicate with policyholders to gather additional details and explain liability decisions.
• Create repair schedules and validate variation requests using company tools.
• Interpret policy wordings and apply insurer handling guidelines.
• Oversee the full claim lifecycle from assessment through to final report submission.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and health & safety legislation.
• Appoint and manage contractors such as asbestos, drying, restoration and building specialists.

Required profile

• Proven experience in loss adjusting or building surveying, preferably with subsidence projects.
• Degree in Building Surveying (BSc Hons) or equivalent.
• Professional membership such as MCIOB or MRICS is advantageous but not essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
