Building Surveyor – Claims Evaluation (Reading/West London)

About the role

Our client is seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to join their claims team covering Reading and West London. The role focuses on assessing properties affected by fire, flood, storm and other perils, with additional value placed on subsidence experience. You will work closely with policyholders, claim handlers and contractors to deliver accurate claim evaluations and repair programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Review client and claim handler information and conduct detailed site visits to validate policy coverage and scope.
• Communicate with policyholders to gather information and explain liability decisions.
• Create repair schedules, assess variation requests and interpret policy wordings in line with insurer guidelines.
• Manage the end‑to‑end claim process, from damage assessment through to final report submission.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and Health & Safety legislation.
• Appoint and brief contractors such as asbestos, drying, restoration and building specialists.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in building surveying or loss adjusting, preferably with exposure to subsidence projects.
• Degree in Building Surveying (BSc Hons) or equivalent.
• Professional membership such as MCIOB or MRICS is desirable but not essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a customer‑focused approach.

What we offer

• Competitive salary ranging from £50,000 to £70,000 per annum.
