Building Surveyor – Property Portfolio Management

About the role

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Building Surveyor to join a small, collaborative team that manages an exceptional property portfolio, ranging from listed buildings and cultural landmarks to residential, commercial and retail spaces. Reporting to the Head of Construction and FM, you will lead inspections, project scoping and contract administration across a diverse range of assets.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct property inspections and produce detailed condition reports.
• Scope and specify works for repair, refurbishment and improvement projects.
• Manage tenders independently for each project, without reliance on frameworks.
• Administer construction contracts, primarily JCT.
• Oversee planned and capital investment projects from inception to completion.
• Provide technical guidance to non‑property colleagues.
• Challenge contractors to ensure quality delivery.

Required profile

• Experienced Building Surveyor with strong understanding of construction contracts and project management.
• Chartered RICS or CIOB preferred, but experienced non‑chartered candidates will be considered.
• Confident working independently and comfortable challenging contractors.
• Passionate about preserving heritage and community assets.
• Effective communicator and team player across internal departments and external stakeholders.
