Business Analyst – Payroll Transformation (24‑Month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

The role is a 24‑month fixed‑term Business Analyst position supporting a major payroll transformation programme for a leading UK transport and infrastructure organisation. Working closely with Payroll, HR, Finance and operational teams, you will help design, document and implement a new payroll solution across a complex multi‑entity environment.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with Payroll, Finance, HR, Reward and operational teams to gather, document and validate business requirements.
• Map end‑to‑end payroll processes, identifying gaps, risks, controls and opportunities for standardisation.
• Produce business requirements, user stories, process documentation and acceptance criteria for implementation partners.
• Support the design of future‑state payroll operating processes within a federated organisational structure.
• Conduct impact assessments across Payroll, HR, Finance and management stakeholders.
• Validate payroll outputs for accuracy, compliance, auditability and alignment with financial reporting.
• Assist change‑management activities, including creation of training materials and stakeholder communications.
• Lead and support User Acceptance Testing, including test planning, scenario creation, execution support, payroll reconciliation and defect management.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Business Analyst on payroll‑focused transformation or implementation projects.
• Strong expertise in payroll requirements gathering, process mapping and documentation.
• Ability to translate complex operational requirements into clear, actionable specifications.
• Experience creating user stories, business requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Understanding of payroll operations, compliance, controls and financial reporting requirements.
