Buyer – 12‑Month Maternity Cover (Aircraft Components)

About the role
We are seeking a Buyer to provide 12‑month maternity cover for our procurement team at our Cambridge head office. The role focuses on direct purchasing of aircraft components, managing an assigned commodity and supporting the senior buyer.
Key responsibilities
- Administer and expedite purchase orders and manage day‑to‑day procurement activities.
- Maintain MRP requirements to meet production schedules and develop recovery plans for shortages.
- Receive Bills of Materials, perform system checks and ensure correct material supply for projects.
- Negotiate prices and lead times with suppliers and resolve supply‑chain issues.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers on contract queries and provide input at project meetings.
- Monitor process performance, produce regular management reports and adhere to standard procedures.
Required profile
- Proven experience in manufacturing procurement, preferably with an engineering background.
- Ability to build strong supplier relationships and communicate effectively.
- Experience using supplier KPIs and managing performance.
- Strong analytical mindset and lateral thinking to solve problems.
Required skills
- Use of MRP planning systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Interpretation of technical drawings.
- Supplier KPI management.
- Negotiation and contract drafting.
