Buyer – Construction (Main Contractor)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Buyer to manage the procurement of materials and subcontract labour for a leading main contractor based in Sevenoaks. The role is pivotal in delivering a range of construction projects, primarily within the social housing refurbishment sector, and offers autonomy within a busy, growing commercial team.

Key responsibilities

• Procure materials and subcontract labour across diverse construction projects, including public sector refurbishment, fire‑stopping, high‑end residential and façade remediation.
• Negotiate prices, terms and agreements with suppliers and subcontractors to secure best value.
• Develop and maintain approved supply‑chain relationships.
• Utilise procurement software to place orders, monitor spend and generate performance reports.
• Support commercial teams with cost‑control measures and procurement strategy development.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a buyer within the construction industry, preferably for a main contractor.
• Ability to work independently as the sole buyer.
• Commercially astute with strong negotiation capabilities.
• Comfortable liaising with multiple external stakeholders and internal management.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with procurement software.
• IT literacy.
