Buyer - Men's Apparel

About the role

JD Sports Fashion plc is hiring a Buyer for its Men's Apparel category in Bury, reporting to the Head of Buying Department. The role sits within the Buying function and covers product selection, brand negotiations and budget management.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the Buying function on the relevant fascia and category
• Attend all appointments, including product launches throughout the year, and take part in selecting and editing products
• Attend relevant trade shows
• Analyse and review previous weeks' sales with the merchandising department to propose and drive actions for the week ahead
• Negotiate with selected brands on trading terms and conditions, distribution agreements and budgets, and plan budgets internally and with external brands
• Stay alert to new brands and opportunities to diversify and grow department or category sales
• Work independently in a creative, trend-led environment and manage budgets and OTB for in-season and forward periods
• Present ranges for sign-off to Senior Buyers, the Buying Director and the Merchandising Director, and present performance in trade meetings
• Prepare proposals to help drive sales in the relevant department

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of the store base and website
• Confidence in making decisions on product selection and being accountable for them
• Ability to work independently and make decisions
• Strong knowledge of the product area and market, and ability to predict current and future trends
• Experience of buying branded goods is essential; experience of buying sports fashion is advantageous
• High degree of analytical and numerical skills
• Organisational skills and the ability to work under own initiative
