Capital & Financial Accountant

About the role

Help shape the future of healthcare through a major capital investment programme. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Capital & Financial Accountant to join a leading NHS acute hospital during a significant period of investment and development.

Key responsibilities

• Manage capital accounting, fixed assets, lease accounting and VAT matters for a large‑scale capital programme.
• Prepare financial reporting and support the production of statutory accounts.
• Work closely with auditors and ensure compliance with NHS accounting standards.
• Provide financial expertise on major investment projects and business cases.
• Monitor capital project budgets, expenditures and cash flow.
• Ensure accurate lease accounting in line with IFRS 16 requirements.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (or equivalent) with strong financial and capital accounting experience.
• Experience in statutory accounts preparation and audit processes.
• Knowledge of NHS accounting standards and VAT regulations.
• Advanced Excel and analytical abilities.
• Proactive problem‑solving approach and continuous improvement mindset.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
