About the role
The Capital Fire Safety Manager will provide specialist fire safety leadership for a major healthcare capital programme across the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust estate. Working within the Capital Delivery function, the role offers hybrid working and supports new‑build, refurbishment and infrastructure projects.
Key responsibilities
- Provide fire safety advice, scrutiny and assurance from feasibility through design, construction, commissioning and handover.
- Interpret and apply fire safety legislation, Building Regulations, British Standards and NHS fire guidance (HTM 05 suite).
- Review project designs, fire strategies, specifications and technical submissions, identifying risks and recommending proportionate actions.
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, contractors, Authorising Engineers and clinical services.
- Act as, or work towards appointment as, the organisation’s Fire Authorised Person and support inspections, audits, testing and commissioning.
- Offer clear technical advice and constructive challenge to protect patient environments and ensure statutory compliance.
- Participate in on‑call arrangements, providing specialist advice during incidents.
Required profile
- Relevant degree, diploma or Level 4+ professional qualification in fire safety, fire engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional membership or registration with a recognised body such as the Institution of Fire Engineers.
- Extensive practical knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, Building Regulations, Approved Document B and healthcare fire guidance.
- Proven experience delivering specialist fire safety advice on capital projects within complex, regulated estates.
- Ability to undertake Fire Authorised Person responsibilities or achieve formal appointment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to patient safety and continuous improvement.
