About the role
We are looking for a reliable and proactive Caretaker / Site Officer to join a welcoming secondary school in St Helens. The successful candidate will ensure a safe, secure and well‑presented environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain the school site clean, safe, secure and well‑maintained at all times.
- Carry out basic maintenance and repairs such as plumbing, painting and minor electrical work.
- Open and close the premises, including occasional evenings or weekends.
- Monitor and maintain heating, lighting and alarm systems.
- Conduct regular health‑and‑safety checks and risk assessments.
- Manage site security and respond to alarm call‑outs when required.
- Oversee contractors and ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures.
- Assist with setting up rooms for events, exams and school activities.
Required profile
- Previous caretaker, facilities or maintenance experience, preferably in a school setting.
- Good practical abilities for minor repairs.
- Understanding of health‑and‑safety procedures.
- Reliable, organised and able to work independently.
- Strong communication skills with a friendly, approachable manner.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends.
