Casualty Litigated Claims Handler

About the role

The Claims Handler will manage a caseload of EL/PL delegated authority fixed fee cases on behalf of a number of insurance clients, working in conjunction with a Technical Support Lawyer who will set strategies and make liability decisions. The role requires a forensic and analytical approach to the issues and an appreciation of the documents and evidence required in these types of cases.

Key responsibilities

• Consider and respond to applications for pre‑action disclosure.
• Handle matters in accordance with client SLA’s and instruct counsel/advocates.
• Review evidence, conduct legal research and negotiate settlements.
• Draft payments into court, Tomlin Orders and Consent Orders.
• Deal with routine correspondence and manage disclosure processes.
• Conduct investigations, obtain witness statements and liaise with insured parties, claimant solicitors and witnesses.
• Attend conferences and trials with counsel, taking detailed notes.
• Review quantum, draft cost schedules and ensure compliance with SRA standards.

Required profile

• Experience handling a caseload of litigated EL/PL files or personal injury files.
• Litigation experience and legal education (ILEX, LPC or equivalent).
• Strong telephone and communication skills with all levels of stakeholders.
• Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate tasks effectively under pressure.
• High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Good literacy, IT proficiency and ability to work within the Keoghs Shared Behaviour framework.
• Positive, confident, enthusiastic attitude with a focus on client care.
• Ability to meet performance targets and work collaboratively within a team.
