Category Buyer – Procurement Specialist

About the role

Butler Rose is seeking a commercially‑minded Category Buyer to join its procurement team in Exeter. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will manage product categories, drive cost reductions and ensure reliable supply across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with existing suppliers.
• Identify and deliver cost‑saving opportunities within assigned categories.
• Run RFQs and lead sourcing activities to meet business requirements.
• Negotiate pricing, terms and long‑term supply agreements.
• Monitor supplier performance on cost, quality, delivery and service.
• Support new product introductions and product life‑cycle management.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure supply continuity.
• Manage procurement projects and contribute to category strategies.
• Identify and mitigate supply‑chain risks.
• Analyse market trends and supplier data to inform decisions.

Required profile

• Previous purchasing, buying or procurement experience in distribution, manufacturing or engineering.
• Strong supplier negotiation and relationship‑management abilities.
• Proven track record of delivering cost reductions and managing sourcing projects.
• Good commercial awareness and analytical capability.
• Effective communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Ability to work independently while handling multiple priorities.
