Catering and Cleaning Assistant

About the role

Join the team at Great Western Hospital in Swindon as a Catering and Cleaning Assistant. You will help improve patients' daily experiences by delivering high‑quality food service and maintaining a clean, safe ward environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teamwork in a fast‑paced healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve patient meals, snacks, and hot and cold beverages, ensuring dietary requirements and allergies are followed.
• Maintain safe food handling, storage, temperature checks and fridge monitoring in line with food safety standards.
• Clean patient bed spaces, bathrooms, ward kitchens and communal areas to NHS and COSHH standards, including daily and deep‑cleaning tasks.
• Support infection prevention by following hand‑hygiene, PPE and cross‑contamination procedures, and cleaning isolation rooms or spillages promptly.
• Report maintenance issues, hazards or equipment faults to the relevant team.

Required profile

• Reliable, enthusiastic and able to work as part of a team in a fast‑paced hospital environment.
• Willingness to work weekdays 07:30‑14:00 with possible weekend rota.
• Attention to detail and commitment to high standards of cleanliness and patient care.

Required skills

• Knowledge of food safety handling and temperature monitoring.
• Understanding of COSHH regulations and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
• Familiarity with infection prevention and control procedures.

What we offer
