Catering Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a friendly and reliable Catering Assistant to join the team at Great Torrington Bluecoat Primary School. You will help deliver a safe, welcoming and efficient lunchtime experience for pupils, supporting the school’s commitment to healthy meals.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and serving of meals and snacks.
• Set up, replenish and maintain food counters.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Wash dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment.
• Clean and sanitise kitchen and dining areas.
• Follow food‑hygiene, health‑and‑safety and allergen procedures.
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages.
• Provide courteous service to pupils, staff and visitors.
• Support the catering team with daily kitchen duties as required.

Required profile

• Positive, can‑do attitude with good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and maintain high cleanliness standards.
• Reliable, punctual and organised.
• Willingness to undergo a DBS check and adhere to safeguarding policies.
• Fluency in English.

Required skills

• Food hygiene knowledge.
• Kitchen equipment operation.
