Chartered Surveyor – Complex Caseworker – National Taxation

About the role

The National Taxation team within HMRC Valuation Office is seeking a Chartered Surveyor to lead complex casework across the United Kingdom. You will provide expert valuation advice for National Taxation, Community Infrastructure Levy, Right to Buy and DWP benefits, supporting HMRC, MHCLG and DWP.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of high‑profile, technically complex valuation cases for national taxation purposes.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance and advice to internal teams and external public‑sector clients.
• Conduct site inspections and case management across a wide geographical area, including travel to London and other VO locations.
• Support the District Valuer Services (DVS) management team in workforce planning and skill redeployment.
• Ensure quality standards are met while delivering against budgetary and performance targets.
• Collaborate with the Sector Head and Team Leaders to develop and implement valuation strategies.

Required profile

• Chartered Surveyor qualification (RICS) with significant experience in property valuation.
• Demonstrated expertise in national taxation, community infrastructure levy and related public‑sector valuation matters.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams.
• Willingness to travel extensively and stay overnight when required.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with HMRC, MHCLG, DWP and other public bodies.
