Chief Architect (Interim) – Lead Digital Transformation

About the role

We are supporting a global transportation organisation in appointing an interim Chief Architect to steer a critical phase of its digital and technology transformation. Reporting to the CIO, you will own the enterprise‑wide architecture and engineering strategy, ensuring technology acts as a true business enabler.

Key responsibilities

• Define and lead end‑to‑end architecture and engineering strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Provide leadership across enterprise, solution and platform architecture and guide software engineering teams.
• Establish architecture standards, guardrails and governance to ensure consistency.
• Drive adoption of modern practices such as cloud, DevSecOps, APIs, micro‑services and Agile delivery.
• Develop technology roadmaps and business cases, influencing senior stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop a high‑performing architecture and engineering leadership team.
• Manage a £10m+ OPEX budget and oversee a large technology spend.

Required profile

• Proven senior technology leadership experience in a complex, global organisation.
• Deep expertise in enterprise architecture and large‑scale digital transformation.
• Strong track record of modernising legacy environments and enabling AI and emerging technologies.
• Excellent stakeholder management and ability to influence executive decision‑making.
