Chief Engineer – Active Magnetic Bearing Specialist

About the role

Senior technical authority role for active magnetic bearing products, requiring expertise in AMB, rotordynamics, FEA, CFD and rotating equipment. The position is fully remote with a discretionary bonus and occasional travel to the United States and West Sussex.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the final technical authority for product designs, analyses and critical engineering decisions.
• Define and enforce engineering standards, design rules and industry best practice.
• Lead critical design reviews and failure investigations covering performance, safety and reliability.
• Perform and guide rotordynamics, vibration analysis, FEA stress analysis and CFD.
• Provide senior technical input for bids, proposals, customer engagements and advanced product applications.
• Mentor engineering colleagues and support future technical leadership development.

Required profile

• Significant active magnetic bearing experience from an AMB manufacturer or OEM.
• 15+ years of rotating equipment design and analysis, including 10+ years in senior or principal engineer roles.
• Advanced knowledge of rotor dynamics, vibration analysis, FEA, CFD, scientific programming and 2D/3D CAD.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred, PhD advantageous.
