About the role

Our client, a long‑established law firm in Bristol, is seeking a motivated Child Care Solicitor to join its expanding Family Department. The role focuses on public‑law children matters and offers the chance to work on a high‑quality caseload within a supportive Legal Aid practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of public‑law children matters, including care proceedings under Section 31 of the Children Act 1989.
  • Represent parents and family members in care, interim care and emergency protection orders.
  • Conduct advocacy and collaborate with counsel on complex cases.
  • Prepare and monitor legal aid applications, ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
  • Draft statements, threshold responses, position statements and other legal documents.
  • Provide clear, compassionate advice to vulnerable clients throughout proceedings.
  • Attend case management hearings, final hearings and conferences.
  • Contribute to department growth through marketing and networking activities.

Required profile

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales.
  • 3–5 years post‑qualification experience in public‑law children work (or NQ with relevant experience).
  • Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Public Law Outline and Family Procedure Rules.
  • Proven ability to manage an independent caseload and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent drafting, advocacy preparation and client‑care skills.
  • Resilience under pressure and strong organisational abilities.
  • Good IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and familiarity with case‑management systems.
