Childcare Solicitor – Local Authority (Contract)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Childcare Solicitor to join a busy Local Authority legal team in Oxford. The successful candidate will take over an established caseload and start contributing from day one, supporting Children’s Services with high‑quality legal advice.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a full and varied childcare caseload, including care proceedings and related matters.
• Provide expert legal advice to Children’s Services and other stakeholders.
• Prepare legal documentation, court applications and other required filings.
• Attend and conduct hearings on behalf of the Local Authority.
• Liaise with social workers, counsel, courts and external agencies to ensure efficient case progression.
• Maintain compliance with statutory deadlines and procedural requirements.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor holding a current practising certificate.
• Significant experience handling Local Authority childcare matters.
• Proven ability to manage a full caseload with minimal supervision.
• Experience in advocacy and representing the authority at hearings.
• Strong knowledge of public childcare law and court procedures.
