Childcare Support Worker (SEN Residential & Day School)

About the role

Prospero Teaching is seeking compassionate and resilient Childcare Support Workers to join a specialist day and residential SEN school in Eastleigh. The role involves providing high‑quality care and support to pupils aged 11‑16 with autism, ADHD, challenging behaviour and SEMH needs, both in the classroom and residential settings.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality care and support within educational and residential environments.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and promote their wellbeing.
• Support young people with autism, ADHD, behavioural and emotional regulation difficulties.
• Implement behaviour‑support strategies and encourage positive outcomes.
• Assist with daily routines, personal development, independence and social skills.
• Support evening and overnight residential routines, including two sleep‑in shifts per week.
• Collaborate with teachers, residential staff, therapists, families and external professionals.
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to care plans as required.

Required profile

• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced Child Barred List DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Professional references covering the last 24 months.
• Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Health & Social Care, Residential Care, Education, or relevant experience supporting young people with SEN.
• Experience working with young people with autism, ADHD, SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Confidence in supporting emotional regulation and communication difficulties.
• Calm, professional demeanor in challenging situations.
• Passion for helping young people achieve greater independence and confidence.
• Flexibility to work across both education and residential settings.

• Competitive hourly rate of £14.25‑£16.
• Full‑time contract (37 hours per week) with two sleep‑in shifts.
