Children and Young Person Support Worker – Durham

About the role

This position provides direct support to children and young people in both residential and community settings across Durham. You will work within a 2:1 staffing ratio, ensuring safety while delivering personalised care and promoting independence.

Key responsibilities

• Support children and young people in residential and community environments, maintaining a 2:1 staffing ratio.
• Write detailed daily notes covering emotions, interactions, food diaries and routines.
• Assist with personal care, household tasks and managing the young person’s money, keeping receipts for each transaction.
• Identify and report safeguarding concerns and contribute to care plans, risk assessments and incident reporting.
• Engage in activities that promote independence, learning and social development.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate written records.
• Emotional resilience and problem‑solving skills.
• Professional, non‑judgmental attitude towards diverse needs.
• Experience working with children or young people with mental, physical or learning disabilities is advantageous.

Required skills

• Note‑taking and documentation.
• Basic financial handling (recording receipts, managing allowances).
