Children's Assessment Service (CAS) Social Worker

About the role

Oxfordshire County Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Children’s Assessment Service (CAS) in Abingdon. You will work in a fast‑paced front‑door service, assessing risk, safeguarding children and coordinating timely interventions for families.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out Section 17 Child & Family Assessments and Section 47 Child Protection investigations.
• Respond to new referrals and act as a duty worker on a rotating roster.
• Develop SMART care and intervention plans in partnership with families.
• Prepare high‑quality reports for assessments, protection conferences and court proceedings.
• Ensure the child’s voice is central to all decisions and documentation.
• Support the progression of cases to long‑term teams and maintain accurate case records.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
• Minimum three years post‑qualifying experience at Senior Practitioner level.
• Strong experience in child protection (Section 47) and family assessments (Section 17).
• Proven analytical, risk assessment and decision‑making abilities.
• Extensive multi‑agency working experience.
