Children's Social Worker – Duty & Advice (MASH)

About the role

Join a multi‑agency team as a Duty and Advice Social Worker, supporting the safeguarding of children and families in Greater Manchester. You will work within the Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) to assess risk, coordinate responses and ensure timely help for vulnerable households.

Key responsibilities

• Respond promptly to referrals received by the MASH and carry out rapid risk assessments.
• Determine the most appropriate services and interventions for children and families.
• Communicate clearly with families, partner agencies and the public to gather necessary information.
• Make threshold decisions that comply with statutory duties and professional standards.
• Collaborate with police, health services, community safety and adult social care colleagues to deliver integrated support.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with current registration.
• Proven experience in a multi‑agency environment or similar safeguarding role.
• Strong knowledge of statutory social‑work functions and decision‑making thresholds.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations.
• Capacity to work under pressure and make swift, evidence‑based decisions.
