Children's Social Worker – Help & Protection

About the role

Join Coventry City Council’s Help and Protection hub as a Children’s Social Worker. You will work directly with children, families and partner agencies to safeguard vulnerable service users and deliver high‑quality social care.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct complex assessments and provide social work support in line with statutory guidance and departmental policies.
• Coordinate risk management plans and ensure the welfare of children and families until core working hours resume.
• Provide direct interventions, support, and guidance to service users with complex and evolving needs.
• Prepare legal instructions, represent families in court and liaise with legal services when required.
• Manage incoming safeguarding calls and advice requests, prioritising cases where safety or liberty is at stake.
• Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams, external agencies and other professionals to deliver integrated care.

Required profile

• Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards and local policies for children, adults and housing social care.
• Ability to work independently while adhering to management accountability and professional standards.
• Experience handling complex safeguarding cases and delivering timely, effective interventions.
• Strong communication and liaison skills with partner agencies and legal services.
