Children's Social Worker – Kinship (Tameside)

About the role
Our client, a Greater Manchester council, is looking for a qualified Children’s Social Worker to join its Fostering‑Kinship team in Tameside. The role is full‑time on a temporary basis, offering a competitive rate of £35 per hour and the chance to make a real difference to vulnerable children and families.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out comprehensive kinship assessments (Connected Persons and Special Guardianship) in line with statutory guidance and fostering regulations.
- Assess extended family members to secure safe, stable placements for children who cannot live with their parents.
- Produce viability and full fostering assessments, delivering high‑quality evidence‑based reports for panels and courts.
- Work collaboratively with children, families and multi‑agency professionals to promote positive outcomes and permanency planning.
- Provide ongoing support and supervision to approved kinship carers, including safeguarding and placement stability guidance.
- Attend multi‑agency meetings, looked after reviews, fostering panels and court proceedings as required.
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with statutory requirements, local procedures and timescales.
- Identify and manage risk to safeguard children’s welfare.
Required profile
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
- Minimum three years’ experience as a qualified social worker, preferably in fostering or kinship placements.
