Children's Social Worker – Safeguarding & Care Planning

About the role

Oldham Council is seeking an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join its Safeguarding and Care Planning team. The role focuses on relationship‑based, systemic casework to protect and support children and young people throughout their statutory journey.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a complex caseload of children and young people under Child Protection (CP) and Children in Need (CIN) frameworks.
• Initiate, coordinate and present care proceedings, including the preparation of comprehensive court reports.
• Deliver systemic, relationship‑focused interventions with families to understand context and promote sustainable change.
• Maintain reflective practice and engage in continuous professional development.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with a current, active registration with Social Work England.
• Substantive experience in statutory Child Protection and Court/Care Planning environments.
• Commitment to a minimum of three days per week onsite at Oldham Council offices.
