Civil Design Engineer – Roads, Drains & Sewers

About the role

We are partnering with a respected housebuilder to find a Civil Design Engineer who will lead the design of roads, drainage systems and sewers. The role is based in Cheltenham and offers the chance to work on residential development projects within an engineering consultancy environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed designs for roads, surface water drains and sewer networks using industry‑standard software.
• Collaborate with residential developers, attend design meetings and provide technical input.
• Prepare and review Section 38, Section 104 and Section 278 agreements to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Produce design documentation, calculations and construction drawings.
• Support the project team with value engineering and cost‑effective solutions.

Required profile

• Qualified to HNC level or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related built‑environment discipline.
• Proven experience designing roads, drains and sewers for residential schemes.
• Familiarity with Section 38, 104 and 278 agreements.
• Strong communication skills for client interaction and multidisciplinary coordination.

Required skills

• Micro Drainage software proficiency.
• AutoCAD (or comparable CAD package) competence.
