Civil Design Engineer – Water Infrastructure

About the role

Trant Engineering is seeking a Civil Design Engineer to join its Innovation, Design & Solutions (IDS) team in Southampton. The role supports the delivery of complex water‑industry projects, from feasibility studies through detailed design and construction support, and offers mentorship towards ICE chartership.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret client specifications, conduct site surveys and develop civil design deliverables in line with Eurocodes and industry standards.
• Produce design calculations, AutoCAD AEC drawings, survey datasheets and risk assessments for structures, foundations, hydraulic systems and temporary works.
• Manage multi‑discipline design interfaces, coordinate with clients, external consultants and subcontractors, and ensure compliance with health‑and‑safety, ISO and other regulations.
• Provide technical support to site teams during installation and commissioning, and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil or related engineering (Bachelor’s required, Master’s preferred).
• At least 2 years of engineering experience, including project design and coordination.
• Professional membership of an engineering institution or willingness to obtain ICE chartership.
• CSCS Card, SHEA Water Qualification or EUSR Water Hygiene Qualification is desirable.

Required skills

• AutoCAD AEC software collection.
• Design calculations for concrete, steel, hydraulic, foundation and temporary works.
• Survey techniques: topographical, ground‑penetrating radar, structural and ground investigation.
• Knowledge of Eurocodes, UK water‑industry standards and health‑and‑safety regulations (OHSA, ISO).
