Civil Engineer – Drainage & Infrastructure (Exeter)

About the role

Acorn by Synergie is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join its multidisciplinary consultancy in Exeter city centre. The role focuses on drainage, highways and infrastructure design for residential and commercial developments, offering genuine project ownership and support toward professional chartership.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver drainage strategies for residential and commercial schemes.
• Produce Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) designs.
• Prepare Section 104, Section 106 and Section 278 agreements.
• Design highways and civil infrastructure solutions.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities and internal project teams.
• Manage projects from concept through to construction, ensuring programme and budget compliance.
• Mentor and support junior engineers.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Civil Engineer with a focus on drainage design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Site 3D, Civils 3D, InfoDrainage or similar software.
• Good understanding of Section 104, Section 106 and Section 278 agreements.
• Ability to manage own projects and prioritise workload.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Desirable: experience on residential/commercial developments, business development exposure, and interest in chartership.
