Civil Project Engineer – Tunnelling & Geotechnical Works

About the role

ACCIONA is seeking an experienced Civil Project Engineer to lead tunnelling, shaft sinking, underground structures and geotechnical works on a major infrastructure programme in London (E17). The role combines planning, coordination and on‑site execution to ensure safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver tunnelling, shaft sinking, deep excavations and related geotechnical construction activities.
• Collaborate with design teams to develop practical, buildable solutions for underground works.
• Review and coordinate geotechnical investigations, ground reports, construction methodologies and design deliverables.
• Manage technical interfaces between tunnelling, civil, structural and temporary works packages.
• Coordinate specialist subcontractors for ground support, improvement, dewatering, excavation and temporary works.
• Monitor construction activities for compliance with designs, specifications and industry standards.
• Support risk management, mitigation measures and constructability assessments.
• Assist with procurement, tender evaluation and subcontractor engagement.
• Provide technical leadership to site teams and promote safety, quality and operational excellence.

Required profile

• Proven experience in civil engineering projects involving tunnelling and geotechnical works.
• Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams, designers, subcontractors and client representatives.
• Strong understanding of construction monitoring, risk identification and mitigation.
• Commitment to safety, quality and sustainable infrastructure delivery.
