Claims Manager

About the role

An established London market insurer is seeking a Claims Manager to lead its specialist casualty claims function. The role blends technical claims handling, team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and portfolio oversight across UK, Ireland, and select international markets.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and develop a small team of casualty claims professionals, overseeing workflow, performance, and technical guidance.
• Own a diverse casualty claims portfolio from notification to settlement, handling coverage, liability, quantum, reserving, and settlement strategy.
• Provide hands‑on technical input on complex, high‑value matters, including large loss reporting and escalation.
• Ensure claims are processed fairly, efficiently, and in line with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and service expectations.
• Collaborate with brokers, insureds, lawyers, loss adjusters, TPAs, underwriters, actuaries, and internal teams throughout the claims lifecycle.
• Support client meetings, market engagement, and claims review discussions as required.
• Monitor claims trends, portfolio performance, and emerging legal or regulatory developments.
• Maintain high file quality, accurate reporting, and clear audit trails.
• Drive continuous improvement in claims handling, service delivery, reporting, and operational processes.

Required profile

• Strong technical casualty claims experience within the London market.
• Previous people‑management, mentoring, or team‑leadership experience.
• Background handling general liability, public liability, or broader casualty claims.
• Confidence managing complex claims involving coverage, liability, reserving, and negotiation.
• Experience working with brokers, clients, panel lawyers, TPAs, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, organisational, and decision‑making abilities.
• Ability to balance technical claims work with team management priorities.
• Collaborative approach with confidence to challenge and provide direction.
• Good awareness of relevant regulatory, legal, and market developments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
