Class 1 Tramper Driver – Container Transport

About the role

We are seeking a reliable Class 1 Tramper Driver to transport containers for a busy port operation in Southampton. The role involves operating automatic‑gear HGVs on early‑morning shifts, with the possibility of night‑out assignments.

Key responsibilities

• Operate HGV Class 1 articulated lorries with automatic gearboxes for container transport.
• Perform pick‑ups and deliveries, logging each activity via smartphone or tablet in real time.
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report any defects.
• Adhere to site‑specific procedures, especially within port environments, and follow health & safety policies.
• Comply with the Working Time Directive, accurately recording driving hours, breaks and rest periods.

Required profile

• Valid HGV Class 1 (C&E) licence held for at least 1 year.
• Valid DP World Card and Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC).
• Digital Tachograph card and ability to use electronic devices for reporting.
• Minimum 1 year experience driving HGV‑class vehicles with containers.
• Good spoken and written English and a clean driving record (≤6 penalty points).

Required skills

• Operation of automatic‑gear HGV Class 1 vehicles.
• Use of DP World Card for port access.
• Digital tachograph operation.
• Smartphone/EPOD data entry.
• Knowledge of the UK motorway network and Working Time Directive regulations.
