Class 2 Driver – Waste Collection

About the role

As a Class 2 Driver with FCC Environment you will support waste and recycling collection services across East Lothian. You will operate up to 12‑tonne refuse vehicles, load recycling materials and ensure safety and depot standards are maintained.

Key responsibilities

• Drive a refuse/recycling vehicle on daily collection rounds.
• Assist with loading the vehicle and manage all paperwork.
• Report accidents, near‑misses, dangerous occurrences or conditions to line management.
• Oversee vehicle operations at council tipping points, ensuring health and safety processes are followed.
• Carry out vehicle checks and maintain your designated vehicle.
• Supervise a crew of up to two loaders per vehicle.

Required profile

• Valid Cat C licence.
• Valid digital tachograph card and driver’s CPC (minimum 35 hours completed).
• Reliable with strong team leadership.
• Experience in waste collection is desirable but not essential – full training provided.
• Local area knowledge is advantageous.
• Commitment to health and safety best practices.
