Class 2 Refuse Driver

About the role

This position involves operating a Class 2 hook‑loader vehicle to collect large household recycling containers across Cambridgeshire and deliver them to authorised waste disposal sites. The role is based in Waterbeach and requires early‑morning shifts, strict adherence to road safety and waste‑handling procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Drive a 6/8‑wheel hook‑loader (Roll‑On‑Off) to collect and transport large recycling containers.
• Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and loads are secured in line with highway regulations.
• Transport loads to appropriate waste‑disposal facilities and record all movements.
• Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
• Liaise with the Traffic Office each day to confirm completed jobs and prepare for the next day.
• Maintain accurate records, including vehicle checks, tachograph data, accident and near‑miss reports.
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and weekly wheel‑torquing as per procedure.
• Report any vehicle defects, customer‑service issues, or safety incidents to depot management.
• Participate in toolbox talks and other health‑and‑safety activities.

Required profile

• Valid Class 2 driving licence.
• Ability to operate a hook‑loader vehicle safely.
• Willingness to work 05:30‑15:30, Thursday to Monday.
• Commitment to follow health‑and‑safety and road‑transport directives.
