Class Underwriter - Surety

About the role

Harrison Holgate is seeking an experienced Surety Underwriter to join its growing MGA in the London market. The role offers autonomy to build and manage a profitable Surety portfolio while contributing to the strategic direction of the business.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite a broad range of Surety risks within agreed authority.
• Develop and expand a profitable portfolio through new and existing broker relationships.
• Assess risks, negotiate terms, and deliver commercially sound underwriting decisions.
• Work closely with brokers to identify and convert new business opportunities.
• Monitor portfolio performance and help drive profitable growth.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the Surety offering and wider business strategy.
• Represent the business across the London Market and at industry events.
• Support, mentor, and share knowledge with colleagues as the team grows.
• Ensure underwriting activity complies with internal standards and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Proven track record underwriting Surety business within the London Market.
• Strong technical underwriting and risk assessment capabilities.
• Ability to build and maintain long‑term broker relationships.
• Commercial awareness and strong negotiation skills.
• Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with ambition to grow the business.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
