Clerk of Works – Civil Engineering

About the role

Freedom Professional Services is seeking an experienced Clerk of Works to join NG Bailey’s electricity transmission and distribution civil design team. The role is hybrid, based in Leeds, and involves overseeing civil works on electricity substations across Yorkshire and the North East.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure all civil construction complies with design, standards, specifications, policies and procedures.
• Support design engineers in managing civil engineering elements of projects.
• Use site surveys, drawings, codes of practice and technical specifications to advise contractors during construction.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing site construction programmes in collaboration with contractors and project managers.
• Participate in planning Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and monitor contractor adherence.
• Conduct quality, health & safety and environmental audits as required.
• Prepare weekly/monthly progress reports for the client.
• Chair on‑site coordination meetings and liaise with clients and internal design teams to mitigate risks to programme, quality or cost.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Clerk of Works in the civil/built environment, covering masonry, steel portal frames and reinforced concrete structures.
• Strong technical and non‑technical communication skills with contractors, clients and stakeholders.
• Good knowledge of CDM Regulations and relevant construction standards.
