Client Accounting Services Apprentice

About the role

We are looking for a Client Accounting Services Apprentice to join our growing accountancy firm in Ferryhill. You will support the CAS team with bookkeeping, reconciliations, VAT returns, payroll and accounts preparation while studying towards an AAT qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver a warm, friendly and professional service to clients in line with company values.
• Support bookkeeping activities using cloud‑based accounting software.
• Process purchase and sales invoices accurately and efficiently.
• Assist with bank reconciliations, control accounts and VAT returns.
• Support payroll processing and pension administration.
• Help prepare management accounts and year‑end accounts.
• Maintain accurate client records and workflow systems.
• Gather and manage client information and documentation promptly.
• Support digital systems, software adoption and process improvements.
• Develop accounting knowledge through apprenticeship studies, CPD and on‑the‑job learning.

Required profile

• Eager to learn and build a career in accountancy.
• Organised, detail‑oriented and confident working with numbers and technology.
• Familiar with bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, VAT, payroll and cloud accounting software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using digital document management tools.
• Strong communication, teamwork and client service skills.
• Proactive, accountable and committed to delivering high‑quality work.
• Effective at managing time, solving problems and taking ownership of personal development.

What we offer

• Salary between £14,600 and £24,000 per year, dependent on experience.
• 35‑hour work week, Monday‑Thursday at Ferryhill office and Friday at Stanley office.
• 25 days annual leave, increasing by one day per year of service up to a maximum of 5 days.
