Clinical Nurse Practitioner – Fixed Term (1 Year)

About the role

The NHS Lothian team is hiring a Clinical Nurse Practitioner on a one‑year fixed‑term contract to work across the Edinburgh City Centre and Western General Hospital sites. This role combines direct patient care with leadership and education responsibilities, supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate, and high‑quality health services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive clinical assessments and prescribe appropriate treatments for a diverse patient population.
• Lead and mentor nursing staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
• Deliver and support clinical education, induction programmes and preceptorship for new staff.
• Contribute to the implementation of the Nursing & Midwifery Strategic Plan and uphold NHS values.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, patient‑centred care.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration and advanced practice qualifications.
• Demonstrated compassion, strong communication and a commitment to equality and diversity.
• Motivation to develop leadership capabilities and align with NHS strategic ambitions.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced hospital setting.
