Clinical Waste Driver/Porter (Band 2)

About the role

We are looking for a Clinical Waste Driver/Porter to join the Facilities Team at Borders General Hospital. The role provides a NHS Borders‑wide service, collecting clinical and special waste from hospitals, health centres, clinics and private contractors and delivering it to the waste station.

Key responsibilities

• Collect clinical and special waste from hospitals, health centres, clinics and private contractors across NHS Borders.
• Transport waste safely to the waste station at Borders General Hospital.
• Secure waste for uplift by contracted waste removal companies.
• Maintain accurate records of collections and hand‑overs.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and waste‑handling regulations.

Required profile

• Valid UK driving licence and proven driving competence.
• Ability to work independently, using own initiative and good time‑management.
• Understanding of NHS Borders Behavioural Framework or willingness to learn.
• Commitment to health, safety and confidentiality standards.
