CloudOps Lead

About the role

A Site Reliability Engineering Lead is sought to head a team delivering mission-critical cloud services for a UK Public Sector client. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring high availability, reliability and scalability of cloud platforms, while driving operational excellence, automation and collaboration across cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and mentor a team of CloudOps engineers, covering performance management, career development and engagement
• Manage the on-call rota and operational readiness for 24/7 support, and oversee administrative and resource planning
• Represent CloudOps in Programme Board, Architecture, Service Reviews and Client Meetings where necessary
• Design and implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using tools such as Terraform and Ansible
• Automate provisioning, configuration and scaling of AWS cloud resources
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments
• Monitor and troubleshoot cloud services, optimise performance through metrics and dashboards, and implement cost optimisation strategies
• Provide L2 application support and coordinate with Service Management, Engineering and DevOps on application issues
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery and backup strategies, and ensure compliance with security and governance standards, including handling sensitive data (PII/PHI)
• Maintain documentation and partner with QA, Product and Development to improve time-to-market, quality and resilience

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in CloudOps/DevOps/SRE roles, with strong leadership capabilities
• Eligible for DBS check and UK Security Clearance
• Desirable: experience supporting client-facing systems in public sector or healthcare, familiarity with secure systems handling sensitive data, and a proactive mindset for operational improvement

Required skills

• Cloud architecture (AWS preferred), Linux environments and containerisation frameworks
• Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages
• IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD automation
