CNC Machinist – Night or Day Shift

About the role

Morson Edge is recruiting CNC Machinists for a six‑month contract with GKN Aerospace at the advanced composite manufacturing facility in Western Approach. The role involves machining carbon‑fibre wing spars for aircraft such as the A350 and A400M, using modern CNC router and 5‑axis technology.

Key responsibilities

• Manufacture and machine composite and metallic aircraft components up to 15 m in length.
• Operate CNC routers and 5‑axis Zimmerman drilling/fettling gantry machines.
• Use Renishaw probing systems and cutter‑tool‑setting equipment.
• Load and set fixtures and tooling on CNC machinery.
• Interpret aircraft drawings, specifications and quality standards.
• Follow Health & Safety, COSHH and risk‑assessment procedures.
• Support lean manufacturing and continuous‑improvement activities.
• Work within small operational teams and undertake training in advanced composite techniques.

Required profile

• Level 2 qualification (NVQ or City & Guilds) – mandatory.
• Experience setting and operating CNC machines.
• Ability to read technical drawings and work to tight tolerances.
• Good communication, strong attention to detail and willingness to work night‑shift patterns.
