CNC Turning Machine Operator – Aerospace

About the role

We are seeking an experienced CNC Turning Machine Operator to join a leading aerospace manufacturer in Portsmouth. The role involves producing high‑precision components for cutting‑edge aerospace projects on Fanuc‑controlled lathes.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes using Fanuc control systems.
• Interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings and process specifications.
• Manufacture components to tight tolerances and high‑quality surface finishes.
• Perform in‑process inspections with micrometres, verniers and bore gauges.
• Carry out routine machine maintenance and cleaning.
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately.
• Adhere to Health & Safety and AS9100 quality standards.
• Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams.

Required profile

• Proven experience operating CNC lathes in precision engineering or aerospace.
• Ability to programme and edit CNC programs directly on the machine.
• Strong capability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with AS9100 standards (preferred).
• High attention to detail and a quality‑focused mindset.
• Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering/CNC Machining (preferred).
