Commercial Manager – Construction

About the role

Our client, a leading privately‑owned main contractor in the UK, is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager (or Senior Quantity Surveyor) to take autonomous responsibility for multiple construction projects across the South East. Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will own the commercial delivery of new‑build, refurbishment and logistics schemes while working closely with operational teams.

Key responsibilities

• Commercial ownership and oversight of construction projects, including cost planning, budgeting and commercial reporting.
• Procurement, tendering and subcontractor management, ensuring value for money and compliance.
• Valuations, variations, final accounts and contract administration (JCT, Design & Build, NEC).
• Value engineering and commercial risk management throughout project lifecycles.
• Developing strong commercial relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Mentoring junior commercial colleagues and contributing to the growth of the commercial function.

Required profile

• Significant commercial management or quantity surveying experience within a main‑contracting environment.
• Proven ability to take autonomous commercial responsibility for projects and workstreams.
• Experience across commercial construction, industrial/logistics, distribution, refurbishment or retail sectors.
• Strong procurement, cost control and contractual capability.
• Comfortable engaging directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel regularly to sites across London and the South East.
