Commercial Underwriter – Property & Casualty

About the role

IPS Group is seeking a Commercial Underwriter to join a leading insurer’s growing team in Maidstone. You will underwrite commercial property and casualty risks, manage broker relationships and help drive profitable growth across the portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite commercial P&C risks within delegated authority, ensuring profitability and alignment with underwriting strategy.
• Manage large or complex cases while delivering exceptional service to intermediary partners.
• Act as the primary point of contact for brokers, attending meetings to support new business development and strengthen existing relationships.
• Monitor account and portfolio performance, identify improvement areas and implement corrective actions.
• Support loss‑ratio management through effective underwriting controls and portfolio oversight.
• Investigate under‑performing accounts and retention challenges in collaboration with senior underwriting colleagues.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide technical underwriting expertise.

Required profile

• Strong experience in commercial property & casualty underwriting with up‑to‑date market knowledge.
• Proven trading and relationship‑management skills, especially in developing broker partnerships.
• Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation ability.
• Experience monitoring portfolio performance and implementing improvement plans.
• Solid technical underwriting knowledge in a commercial or composite insurance environment.
