Commissioning Environmental Engineer

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a Commissioning Environmental Engineer for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear power station project, which is the first new nuclear power station built in the UK in over 20 years. The post holder joins the CommOps Industrial and Fire Safety professionals team, reports to the Commissioning Environment Lead and works closely with Commissioning Delivery teams to minimise environmental impact during commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Create, maintain and improve Environmental Safety controls to address risks across the Commissioning programme
• Assist in monitoring, coordinating and reviewing Environmental activities under the HPC Safety Management System and CommOps Environmental Management Plans
• Produce Environmental safety performance reports, highlighting trends, early warnings and recommended remedial actions
• Influence the Commissioning programme on key environmental issues, hazards and risks
• Support regulatory interfaces and undertake risk-based assessments, environmental safety inspections and assurance activities
• Provide assurance on compliance with applicable legal duties
• Take part in emergency preparedness and environmental incident management

Required profile

• Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in an environment-related discipline
• Experience or understanding of environmental compliance in a regulated industry
• Experience writing, implementing and/or reviewing environmental specifications and risk assessments
• Knowledge of the UK legal environmental permitting and waste management framework
• Ability to communicate complex environmental data clearly to stakeholders and give practical advice on technical issues
